The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Quantieme Ivory Enamel marks the first time the brand has combined its signature “Grande Seconde” date display with an ivory enamel dial, resulting in a design that feels even more refined and sophisticated than the 2011 original. The sunken date subdial enhances the sense of depth and dimensionality, adding balance to the elegant symmetry of the dial. This ivory enamel dial is created through a rare dual-enameling technique. The main dial is produced using grand feu enamel, fired at over 1000°C, while the numerals and scales are later hand-painted in black enamel and fired again at a lower temperature — a process known as petit feu enamel. Few watchmakers take the time to execute both techniques on a single dial, as most opt for simpler printed or lacquered alternatives.
The upper 12 o’clock subdial displays the hours and minutes, while the 6 o’clock subdial integrates the large seconds and the date — a pairing that beautifully captures both the fluidity of time and daily practicality.
