Rolex Perpetual GMT-Master II Watch was introduced at the 2019 Baselworld fair as one of the year’s most anticipated releases. The model quickly earned the nickname Batman due to its striking blue and black bi-color bezel. Compared with the earlier Pepsi version from 2018, the Batman variant feels sharper, more contemporary, and considerably more difficult to acquire on the retail market. Many collectors consider both models essential pieces within the modern GMT-Master lineup.

The stainless-steel case measures 40 mm and maintains a water-resistance rating of 100 meters. Rolex applies a blend of brushed and polished finishing that enhances the definition of the lugs and bezel. This Batman version continues to use the Jubilee five-link bracelet, known for its flexibility and comfort. Through the Easylink extension system, the bracelet length can be adjusted by up to 5 mm, allowing wearers to fine-tune the fit throughout the day. The lugs were subtly reshaped to create a smoother transition between bracelet and case, giving the watch a more integrated presence on the wrist.

Its signature Cerachrom ceramic bezel rotates bidirectionally and features a dual-tone color system. The blue half represents daytime hours, while the black half corresponds to nighttime. The 24-hour numerals are filled with platinum using Rolex’s PVD process, resulting in excellent durability and legibility. A frosted finish on the numerals contrasts with the glossy ceramic surface, while the serrated bezel edge provides secure grip during rotation, even with gloves.
The black lacquer dial is paired with white-gold hour markers, hands, and a polished frame around the date window. The Mercedes-style hour hand remains a hallmark of the GMT-Master series. A magnifying lens placed above the date enhances readability, and the blue GMT hand matches the bezel color, distinguishing the model from the red GMT hand used on the Pepsi.

Inside the watch is the Caliber 3285 automatic movement, a modern engine designed for efficiency and precision. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 70 hours. The movement incorporates the Chronergy escapement, which improves reliability and enhances energy efficiency. Additionally, the blue Parachrom hairspring provides strong resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations. Rolex regulates the movement to meet its Superlative Chronometer standard, achieving an accuracy of +2/-2 seconds per day.
The official retail price for this model is 8,800 CHF. However, the limited availability has pushed secondary-market prices significantly higher, often double the original amount. Despite this premium, the Batman remains one of the most sought-after GMT models, appreciated for its versatility, dual-time functionality, and iconic color scheme. For collectors who admire the GMT-Master heritage, both the Batman and Pepsi variants are considered indispensable.
