This collection of dragonfly-themed brooches is from CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel’s brand new 20th Anniversary series, launched in 2024. The artist boldly utilizes titanium, gold, and photopolymer resin to construct the lines of the dragonfly’s wings. The dazzling array of gemstones vividly recreates the translucent effect of sunlight filtering through leaves and falling onto the wings. Each dragonfly brooch features distinct colors and forms, showcasing the infinite possibilities of nature’s creations.

The wings of the White Dragonfly Brooch are densely paved with brilliant diamonds and scattered with larger rose-cut diamonds, complementing a 5.06-carat marquise-cut main diamond on its body. The pure and transparent fire of the stones creates an ethereal, wing-like transparency, while the dragonfly’s eyes are set with two round blue sapphires as a magnificent finishing touch.

The Red Dragonfly Brooch exhibits a romantic color transition: the veins at the base of the wings are set with richly colored rubies, gradually shifting to pink sapphires and diamonds at the edges for a softer effect. During her detailed observation of dragonflies, Artist Cindy Chao noticed that shadows form near the body when the wings beat, while the edges create a blurry, virtual shadow. The three-dimensional setting structure of this piece perfectly captures this natural detail, imbuing it with a dynamic beauty.

The wings of the Blue Dragonfly Brooch are densely set with blue and purple sapphiresGold lines outline the fluid veins, conveying the power and movement of the dragonfly in flight. The body of this brooch is crafted from horn, and its highlight is a nearly 2-carat marquise-cut sapphire of Sri Lankan origin, graded as “Royal Blue”, seemingly suspended at the tip of the diamond-set head. Its deep, rich blue hue harmonizes with the wings.

Another White Dragonfly brooch showcases wings meticulously set with luminous and pure colorless diamonds, dramatically accented by four pear-shaped diamonds in Fancy Vivid Yellow that serve as captivating focal points. Certified as Fancy Vivid Yellow, these vibrant stones emulate the warm, shimmering light dancing upon the dragonfly’s delicate wings in the sunshine.

There is another detail in the CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel 20th Anniversary Series Dragonfly Brooches worthy of close appreciation: the intricate vein textures hidden within the dragonfly wings. Veins have always been an important element in Cindy Chao’s creations. This time, through an artistic expression that combines the solid and the ethereal, Cindy uses these venation patterns to illustrate the lines of force and muscle direction in the dragonfly’s wings during flight, highlighting the “architectural, sculptural, and vital” qualities of the entire piece.
