BVLGARI introduced this pair of sapphire earrings in its 2021 ‘Magnifica’ High Jewelry collection. Centered around the sapphire, the favorite gemstone of Nicola Bulgari, the brand founder’s grandson, the standout feature is the contrasting blue and white dual-color design, making the adornment at the earlobe a captivating focal point.
The earrings cleverly adopt a rounded medallion shape, prominently set with a central cushion-cut sapphire. Its vivid color is reminiscent of the blue cloak of the Virgin Mary in the classic painting “Virgin Annunciate” by the Italian Renaissance artist Antonello da Messina.
Flanking the central stone on both sides are striking vertical bands of blue and white decoration: the blue sections are composed of custom-cut cabochon sapphires, while the white sections are set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The designers specifically accentuated the main stone by surrounding it with larger round and pear-shaped diamonds, creating a rich sense of depth and three-dimensionality.
