Arnold & Son Globetrotter World Time Watch Review
The Arnold & Son Globetrotter World Time Watch made its debut at Baselworld 2018, introducing a bold approach to the traditional world time complication. Designed around global exploration, the watch presents an impressive rotating Earth dome at the center of the dial. This instantly sets it apart from more conventional world time pieces and reflects Arnold & Son’s long-standing heritage in marine chronometry and navigation instruments.
The Globetrotter features a stainless-steel case measuring 45 mm in diameter, paired with a prominent domed sapphire crystal that contributes to its total thickness of 17.23 mm. At the center lies the signature rotating Earth Disk, crafted from a copper sheet that undergoes multiple stages of finishing. The continents are etched and sandblasted to create layers of texture, while the oceans are finished with blue lacquer. The final step involves varnishing and polishing, giving the miniature globe a vivid and lifelike appearance.
Encircling the globe is a transparent sapphire ring printed with a 24-hour scale. The upper and lower sections are color-divided to represent day and night, offering a quick visual reference for the wearer. Beneath the Earth Disk, two red hands display the local time, while the outer ring features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. This combination of decorative artistry and traditional watchmaking codes is characteristic of the brand’s design philosophy.
Inside the watch is the A&S6022 automatic movement, developed and manufactured entirely in-house. The movement runs at 28,800 vph and delivers a 45-hour power reserve. The main plate carries a dark grey treatment, giving the watch a technical and understated look through the sapphire case back. The engraved oscillating weight reflects the same attention to detail seen on the dial side.
The movement incorporates a three-position crown system that allows the user to wind the watch, adjust the local time zone, or set the world time. While the Globetrotter visually represents global time zones, it does not include a traditional city ring. This means it is more of an artistic world time display rather than a precise multi-time-zone instrument. As a result, the watch is appreciated more for its dramatic visual presence than for strict functional practicality.
Despite this limitation, the Globetrotter stands out as a collectible piece for enthusiasts who value craftsmanship and unique design. The oversized Earth Disk serves as a rotating work of art, and the combination of sapphire layers, lacquer finishing, and engraved globe textures demonstrates the brand’s commitment to artisanal watchmaking.
