MB&F HM6 Sapphire Vision Tourbillon Review
This year at SIHH, MB&F unveiled the sapphire crystal case version of its revolutionary MH6: the Horological Machine No.6 SV, also known as the MB&F HM6 Sapphire Vision Tourbillon. “SV” stands for “Sapphire Vision,” highlighting its fully transparent construction.
Since 2011, MB&F has been exploring sapphire crystal cases, starting with the HM2 SV. The HM6 SV pushes this further with a complex, integrated curved and spherical sapphire case, leaving only the side profile in precious metal. This innovation offers an unparalleled view of the intricate movement.
Five Sapphire Crystal Cabins
The case is divided into five sapphire crystal cabins. The main cabin houses the 60-second flying tourbillon and movement; the lower-left cabin displays the hour wheel, the lower-right the minute wheel. The upper-left and upper-right cabins act as engine compartments stabilizing the power delivery during automatic winding. MB&F designed a curved blade mechanism, allowing the tourbillon to be hidden or displayed via the crown on the left side.
Futuristic Design & Space Pirate Aesthetics
The fully transparent sapphire construction allows the movement to be completely visible, giving the watch a futuristic, sci-fi miniature spacecraft appearance. Its bold design has earned the nickname “Space Pirate.”
Limited Editions & Pricing
The MB&F HM6 SV is offered in two versions: rose gold and platinum, each limited to 10 pieces worldwide. The rose gold version is priced at US$368,000, and the platinum at US$398,000. This exclusivity emphasizes its value as both a technical marvel and collector’s piece.
