MBF HM9 Flow Road Hydrodynamic Watch Overview
Independent watchmaker MB&F introduced the HM9 Flow Road Hydrodynamic Watch at SIHH 2019. Drawing inspiration from the aerodynamic designs of 1940s and 1950s automobiles, the HM9 Flow integrates timekeeping into a cockpit-like case, combining futuristic engineering with vintage aesthetics. The watch leaves a lasting impression with its bold, streamlined silhouette and technical sophistication.

Case Design and Aerodynamics
Measuring 57 mm in length, the titanium case of the MBF HM9 Flow Road Hydrodynamic Watch features both satin and mirror-polished surfaces. Despite its substantial size, the ultra-light titanium construction ensures comfortable wear. The design adheres strictly to aerodynamic principles, and each component, including water-resistant gaskets, is custom-made due to the irregular case geometry. Achieving the final finish is a painstaking process, making the case a remarkable feat of craftsmanship.

Movement and Technical Innovation
The watch consists of three sections: the central cockpit and two lateral power pods. Beneath the sapphire crystal of the cockpit sits a planetary differential connecting two balance wheels located in the power pods. The convex sapphire glass provides a magnified view of the movement, highlighting the mirror-polished stainless-steel bridges against the titanium case. The hours and minutes display, inspired by vintage automobile speedometers, sits at 6 o’clock for optimal readability.

The hand-wound movement operates at 18,000 vph, offers a 45-hour power reserve, and is composed of 301 components. The mainplate is crafted from rose gold, and the caliber is among the most complex in MB&F’s HM series, taking three years to develop.
Strap and Limited Edition Details
Limited to 33 pieces, the MBF HM9 Flow Road Hydrodynamic Watch features a brown calfskin strap and titanium folding clasp, water-resistant to 30 meters. Its unique design and engineering make it a collector’s item for enthusiasts of horology and automotive-inspired watches.
