Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud Chronometre FB 1R-6.1 Overview

The Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud Chronometre FB 1R-6.1 was first introduced at the 2018 SIHH as the brand’s initial timer-layout wristwatch. Featuring the signature tourbillon and fusee-and-chain transmission, it presents an innovative power-display mechanism and a distinct architectural movement approach that sets it apart from most haute horlogerie creations. This model highlights the technical philosophy of the brand while respecting Ferdinand Berthoud’s historical precision roots.

FB 1R-6.1 carbon steel case

Case Design and Materials

The 44 mm octagonal case is built from an advanced carbon stainless-steel alloy developed for exceptional durability. With a Vickers hardness of 1200, the case offers strong wear resistance and medical-grade biocompatibility. A signature element of the FB 1 series is the lateral sapphire window placed on the case flank, giving the wearer a clear view of the movement’s three-dimensional gear interaction.

German silver dial

Dial Architecture and Display

The silver-grey German silver dial is lightly brushed, giving a refined metallic texture. A centrally positioned brass seconds hand dominates the display, while the openworked minute indicator and gold minute hand sit at 12 o’clock. At 2 o’clock, a rotating sapphire hour disc presents the hour numerals digitally. The power-reserve indicator at 9 o’clock is directly linked to the barrel, allowing the state of wind to be read with high precision.

Fusee and chain system

Movement Construction

Turning the watch over reveals a highly architectural layout. The barrel sits on one side of the main plate, while the fusee-and-chain system regulates energy transmission from the opposite side. The chain measures just 0.3 mm in width and is hand-assembled into a total length of 28 cm. This traditional mechanism ensures constant torque and precise timekeeping performance.

Tourbillon cage

The Tourbillon

At 9 o’clock sits the impressive 16.55 mm tourbillon cage. This 60-second tourbillon is directly linked to the central seconds hand and operates at 21,600 vph. With a running time of 55 hours, it showcases both stability and classical mechanical charm.

Limited Edition & Collectability

The Chronometre FB 1R-6.1 is limited to only 20 pieces worldwide, making it an extremely rare collector’s item. Though the official retail price has not been publicly disclosed, comparable Ferdinand Berthoud models have exceeded six figures.
