RICHARD MILLE RM 11-03 McLaren Automatic Flyback Chronograph Overview

The RICHARD MILLE RM 11-03 McLaren automatic flyback chronograph was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show as the first co-designed timepiece created between RICHARD MILLE and the McLaren automotive design team. Developed through a collaboration between McLaren Design Director Rob Melville and RICHARD MILLE engineer Fabrice Namura, the watch merges high-performance motorsport aesthetics with advanced mechanical engineering. Its structure and visual identity are deeply inspired by McLaren supercars, with orange serving as the dominant design theme.

Case Design and McLaren DNA

The tonneau-shaped Carbon TPT case integrates layers of carbon fiber combined with bright orange quartz fiber, producing a unique, Damascus-like wave pattern that ensures every watch has an individual identity. The McLaren logo sits prominently at the lower case section, while the oversized crown draws inspiration from lightweight racing wheel rims. The chronograph pushers, made of titanium, reference the distinctive roof-mounted headlights of the McLaren 720S.

Openworked Dial and Display Layout

The openworked dial reveals the movement architecture beneath, allowing the wearer to enjoy the layered depth of the RMAC3 mechanism. The titanium bridges feature brushed and polished chamfers that highlight the three-dimensional structure. The large date window at 12 o’clock is set within a complex multi-level frame, while the white arrow tips on the hands enhance clarity. At 5 o’clock, the month indicator is shaped as an openworked arrow, continuing the automotive-inspired theme.

The RMAC3 Movement

Inside the watch is the RMAC3 automatic movement, originally launched by RICHARD MILLE in 2016. Constructed from grade 5 titanium plates coated with black PVD, the movement beats at 28,800 vph. A double-barrel system ensures a steady power delivery and a 55-hour power reserve. The variable-geometry rotor at 6 o’clock, also crafted from titanium, adjusts winding efficiency according to the wearer’s activity level, optimizing energy generation while maintaining low mass and high durability.

Limited Edition and Collectability

The RICHARD MILLE RM 11-03 McLaren automatic flyback chronograph is limited to 500 pieces worldwide. With a retail price of CHF 180,000, the model is initially offered to customers who pre-ordered a McLaren Ultimate Series supercar. Buyers who purchase both the car and the watch can receive a matching serial number, reinforcing the concept of an integrated automotive and horological experience.
