The RICHARD MILLE RM 70-01 Tourbillon Alain Prost marks the maison’s first watch purpose-built for professional cycling. Co-designed with Formula 1 champion Alain Prost, the watch translates the mechanical spirit of high-performance bicycles into a highly architectural wristwatch. One of its signature elements is the integrated mechanical kilometre totalizer, a cycling-inspired device miniaturized into a complication rarely seen in haute horlogerie.
Pedal-Inspired Case and Movement Architecture
The instantly recognizable asymmetrical case is modelled after the silhouette of a bicycle pedal, creating a dynamic impression of forward motion when worn on the wrist. Even the movement follows this unconventional shape, with skeletonized bridges echoing the internal geometry of high-end racing pedals.
Crafted entirely from Carbon TPT, the case provides exceptional shock resistance, superb lightness, and a distinctive layered texture reminiscent of Damascus steel. The dark grey dial is complemented by brushed and polished hands, while the tourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock highlights the technical mastery at the heart of the watch.
The manual-winding caliber offers a 70-hour power reserve, maintaining reliability during long-distance rides.
Mechanical Kilometre Totalizer: A Cycling First
Positioned at 12 o’clock, the kilometre totalizer is the watch’s most innovative complication. This manually operated device allows cyclists to log seasonal mileage with mechanical precision. The pusher at 2 o’clock cycles between the five rollers, while the pusher at 10 o’clock advances the selected roller by one unit.
Another intentional ergonomic detail is that the RM 70-01 is designed to be worn on the right wrist, preventing the crown from pressing into the hand while cycling.
