About the MB&F MoonMachine 2 Moon Phase Watch
Independent watchmaking house MB&F unveiled the MB&F MoonMachine 2 Moon Phase Watch at SIHH 2018, created through a continued collaboration with Finnish master Stepan Sarpaneva. Building on the design language of the HM8, this model elevates the concept of a projected moon phase display, transforming a traditional complication into a sculptural mechanical performance.

Case Design and Dimensions
The watch uses the HM8–inspired case, modified to include the newly developed moon disk system. Measuring 49 mm x 51.5 mm x 19.5 mm, the case is notably architectural, with sapphire crystal windows layered over the movement to highlight MB&F’s three-dimensional approach. Collectors can choose between titanium and rose gold versions, each offering a distinct appearance and weight profile.
Unique Time Display System
The MB&F MoonMachine 2 Moon Phase Watch adopts the same prism-based display system found on the HM8, enabling the wearer to read time easily while driving. At the lower front section of the case, the left window displays jumping hours and the right shows sweeping minutes. The center aperture reveals a miniature moon disk featuring Stepan Sarpaneva’s trademark hand-engraved lunar face, measuring only 4.5 mm. A combination of optical prisms refracts the information vertically, ensuring excellent legibility.

Movement and Mechanical Details
The watch is powered by MB&F’s automatic three-dimensional movement, running at 28,800 vph and offering a 42-hour power reserve. Its signature battleaxe-shaped rotor is openworked with a radial design reminiscent of the night sky and is adorned with a gold moon, reinforcing the theme of lunar exploration. The movement components display meticulous hand-finishing, highlighting MB&F’s philosophy of mechanical artistry.
Limited Editions and Pricing
MB&F offers the MoonMachine 2 in three material configurations, each limited to 12 pieces worldwide. Prices start at CHF 88,000 for titanium and CHF 95,000 for rose gold. Given the collaboration with Sarpaneva and the low production quantities, the model has quickly become sought after among collectors.
